Within a few years, the owners decided they wanted a liquor license;
unable to obtain one while the hotel was located on First Nations'
land, they had the hotel barged to its present location. Old photos
of the hotel being moved are still in existence. More recent owners
have discovered, to their chagrin, that property lines were not all
that important when a building was being 'disbarged' in 1927!
The Nimpkish pub is famous in these parts, and the stories are
legion. |
| Years ago, when fishing was
still the linchpin of the North Island economy, the fishers
would come off their boats with thousands of dollars to spend.
Many a night (and day!) was spent at the Nimpkish, renewing
friendships and telling tales. Lots of laughter, lots of fun,
some chairs through windows, some scuffles that ended with one
or more participants landing in the chuck - all in fun and all
forgiven and forgotten the next day. |

Nowadays, the Nimpkish caters to a somewhat more sedate crowd.
Our food is well known for its quality and affordability, our drinks
are moderately priced, and our jukebox is kept to a decent volume.
But now and again, the old girl gathers up her skirts, rolls up
the carpet, and puts on a heck of a party - music, laughter, dancing
- nobody likes a good party better than Alert Bay. So come and join
the fun - we have local and out-of-town musicians on a regular basis,
as well as Saturday afternoon jam sessions, and weekly karaoke.
Looking for a truly unique place to get married? How
about the deck of the Nimpkish? On August 9th, we were honoured
to host the nuptials and after-wedding party for a local couple.
What a day-a beautiful couple, a beautiful location, a beautiful
wedding. And what a party afterwards
!

You won't regret making the Nimpkish Hotel in beautiful Alert Bay
one of your destinations when visiting Vancouver Island, B.C.
